Sony Reveals Xperia 1; Features 4K HDR OLED Display

At the Mobile World Congress,(MWC) 2019, Sony has lifted the veil off its Xperia 1 smartphone. And if there’s anything that you’ll notice first about the phone, it’s the height of the phone.

This is because, unlike most phones of today, it features a 6.5-inch, 21:9 ratio display. And it’s not just any display – the Sony Xperia 1 comes with a 4K HDR OLED display. It still keeps the bezel at the top, which does at least mean no notches.

Another departure from the Xperia norm is the multi-camera setup on the back of the phone. It consists of three 12MP cameras, one with a 26mm wide lens, a 52mm telephoto lens, and a 16mm superwide lens. The first two also comes with optical image stabilisation (OIS).

Other items in its spec sheet incluse a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset, 6GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, an IP68 rating, a 3300mAh battery, and its side-mounted fingerprint sensor. There’s also support for Side Sense that allows you to access apps by tapping on the side of the phone.

The Sony Xperia 1 will be available by June, and in four colours – Black, White, Purple and Grey. As of yet, the company as not revealed any details on price, and it may be awhile more before we know if the Xperia 1 will be available on our shores.
