Someone Successfully Transferred A Bitcoin Via High Frequency Radio

Transferring cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin from one user to user has usually been conducted via the internet, but there are instances where some people have wired their crypto dollars offline via mesh networks and satellites. Now, it seems that someone has successfully managed to transfer the crypto dollar via high-frequency radio.

The transaction was conducted by Coinkite founder, Radolfo Novak, through the use of his HAM radio. Initially, Novak’s (highly valuable) radio signal was not being received or acknowledged. Leading him to almost scrap the experiment before it even took off.

To his luck, the signal was picked up the next via a “software defined-radio” – which is basically a computer masquerading as a radio – and responded. The more exciting part of this relay? Noval was conducting this experiment during a blinding snowstorm.

The success of the experiment is important since it now presents another avenue of transacting cryptocurrency without the use of the internet. There is one caveat to this method; according to Novak, sending an encrypted communication over a HAM radio is not permitted. Unless the cypher that encrypts it is made public.
