Samsung Galaxy S10 May Require A Special Screen Protector For In-Display Fingerprint Scanner

Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event smartphone is just around the corner and with it the imminent launch of the brand’s Galaxy S10 series of smartphones. And while many among us await the phone with bated breath, a problem with the phone’s in-display fingerprint scanner has reportedly been discovered.

According to multiple sources, it appears that the Ultrasonic in-display fingerprint scanner is in such a league of its own; normal, run-of-the-mill screen protectors won’t cut the mustard with the phone and would reportedly prevent any proper interaction with the Galaxy S10.

In fact, it’s so special that only one company – Whitestone Dome – has made the claim that it is the only company with its Dome Glass protectors. That will both protect the Galaxy S10’s display And still allow future owners of the phone to properly interact with it.

Whitestone Dom explains that because of the nature of the Ultrasonic in-display fingerprint scanner, air gaps formed by traditional screen protector deny any interaction with it. To counter this effect, the company utilises a liquid adhesive that closes the gap between the Dome Glass protector and the phone’s display.

It gets even better for Whitestone Dome; its tech for its Dome Glass screen protectors is patented and not currently in use by any other company. As you can possibly imagine, having a monopoly on such an IP means that this exclusive screen protector for the Galaxy S10 won’t run cheap. Specifically, it will cost US$60 (~RM244).

At that price, Whitestone Dome will give users two Dome Glass protectors, along with all the necessary installation tools. Given the intricate nature of the screen protector, it’s likely that you’ll still want to leave it to the expert. If only to limit the possibility of messing up the application.

In any case, we’ll just have to wait until 20 February 2019 to see if this rumour actually lives up to Samsung’s next flagship smartphone.
