Apple Ships Out iPhones With Qualcomm Chips To Circumvent Germany Ban

Apple is finally allowed to sell its iPhone 7 and iPhones 8 series smartphones in Germany once again. Nearly two months after the fruit company was banned from doing so by Qualcomm.

What you may not know is the ironic workaround that Apple had taken. In order to ensure that it would be able to sell all of its iPhone models in Germany freely and without hindrance, Apple had no choice but to ship out iPhone 7 and iPhone 8 phone models running on Qualcomm chips. Instead of chips manufactured by Intel.

If you remember, both Qualcomm and Apple were engaged in a legal battle in Germany. The courts of the country ruled in favour of the former and officially banned Apple from selling the iPhone 7 and iPhone 8 fitted with chips made by Qorvo Inc. Chips that are an integral part of the fabrication of Intel’s modem chips.

The fact that Apple must use Qualcomm’s chips in order to route the ban cannot be described as anything less than a bitter irony. As it stands, both companies have been at each other’s throat for many years.

Prior to this, Qualcomm had also won an injunction against Apple in China, where the Chinese court banned the company from selling several iPhone models, ranging from the iPhone 6 all the way to the iPhone X.
