Netflix Castlevania Producer Working On Devil May Cry Animated Series

With two well-received seasons of Castlevania on Netflix, executive producer Adi Shankar will now reportedly work on an animated series for Devil May Cry.

IGN first broke the news in an “interview” of sorts, with Shankar stating that the new Devil May Cry series “will join Castlevania in what we’re now calling the bootleg multiverse.” No idea what that could possibly mean, but he did confirm that he’s acquired the rights to do it.

There is the issue commonly faced by shows made canon to video games and the expectations that follow it. “Bootleg multiverse” comment aside, it’s still unclear Shankar intends to recreate the games’ plot with some embellishments thrown in. Or even if the plot will be a a canon part of the story between games, such as Madhouse Studio’s Devil May Cry: The Animated Series that was released back in 2007.

And while Madhouse’s work had pretty shoddy animation, it’s plot was important. It not only explained how Trish and Lady knew and accepted each other as unlikely allies during the events of DMC4, but it also showed a different side of Dante, during the more mundane days of his life.

Between this and Castlevania Season 3, there’s a lot to look forward to. That said, there’s no mention of if Shankar’s Devil May Cry will also premiere on Netflix. We’ll just have to wait until Shankar is willing to share more on this project of his.
