It stands to reason then that clear and concise communication is essential across every department to ensure each member of your team knows exactly what they are doing, and if they are doing it well.

Not only can you hold detail video conferences with your team, but you can also call each other easily, as well as instant messaging.   • OneDrive: If you already use Microsoft Office, OneDrive is the next step forward with streamlining business processes and communication. While this may not automatically shout out ‘communication,’ this cloud-based application allows team members to work on documents together, saving them in a secure and safe place. If a document is modified incorrectly, however, and you want to restore an earlier version, this is also a handy feature. By allowing team members to work on one document, you reduce the likelihood of mixed messages and errors being made.

While technology is highly effective in boosting communication, it cannot entirely replace face-to-face discussions and reviews. These are extremely important to ensure every member of staff knows their daily tasks clearly, along with being able to report any issues or feedback they are currently experiencing. Taking time out of an already busy schedule to sit down as a team and talk openly and honestly can feel like a challenge, especially in today’s fast-paced environments. However, the benefits far outweigh the struggle.

  • Less risk of miscommunication: Talking face-to-face gives all members of the party a chance to read the body language and tone of voice, which can drastically reduce any anxieties or frustrations. It means there will be less chance of errors in future work, along with less tension between team members.
  • Show your appreciation: Showing every employee they are valued is highly important in every industry. It can be the difference between substandard levels of work and high-quality pieces employees are proud to call their own. By taking the time to say “thank you,” you help boost job satisfaction.
  • Increase productivity: When you take the time to discuss feedback regarding an employee’s role and listen to any issues or complaints they may have, you can help increase their productivity. By addressing issues calmly and straightforwardly, you can implement a change then and there, without worrying about misconstrued emails and a delay in improving the situation.
