Apple announces new MacBook Air with Retina display, two USB-C ports
After seven years and countless failed public appearances, Cupertino computing giant Apple has finally announced a successor to the company’s vaunted 2011 MacBook Air.
The new MacBook Air features a 13.3-inch Retina display, with over four million pixels and borders that are 40 percent narrower than the previous Air model.
The device contains a 3.5mm headphone jack and two Thunderbolt 3 USB-C ports.
Apple’s T2 security chip is also included in the machine.
Apple’s newest laptop features a Touch ID sensor built right into the device’s keyboard.
On the subject of the keyboard, the new MacBook Air has the latest third-generation butterfly keyboard as well as individually backlit keys.
Apple’s newest laptop also includes a Force Touch trackpad that’s 20 percent larger than the diving board trackpad on the original MacBook Air.
The new MacBook Air’s stereo speakers are 25 percent louder, pack in a three-mic array that improves Siri voice recognition and are on the sides of the keyboard, rather than under it.
In terms of internal specs, the new MacBook Air is powered by Intel’s eighth-generation Coffee Lake chips.
Apple boasts that the new MacBook Air is capable of delivering up to 12 hours of web browsing and up to 13 hours of iTunes movie playback.
The device is not only 10 percent thinner than its predecessor, but it’s also 17 percent smaller in volume compared to the previous MacBook Air. The device also weighs 2.75 pounds.
Apple boasted that the new MacBook Air is made from 100 percent recycled aluminum, doing away with the need for mining new ore for the device.
The base model device will come with 128GB of internal store and 8GB of RAM and has 1.6GHz Intel i5 processor.
The device will cost $1,199 USD (roughly $1,572.90 CAD) and will be available on November 7th, 2018.
More to come…
