GoPro Hero7 Lineup Is Now Official; Pricing Starts From US$199.99
GoPro has officially announced its new Hero7 action camera lineup, and has listed them down on its official page. Successors to last year’s Hero6 camera lineup, the Hero7 series consists of three models: The Hero7 Black, Hero7 Silver, and the Hero7 White.
While all three cameras share similar features, there are some distinctive difference with each model. The Hero7 Black, which is GoPro’s top of the line model, sports a 12MP camera sensor and can record video at resolutions of up to 4K at 60 fps person. Like its predecessor, it is also capable of going underwater to maximum depth of 10 metres and can be voice controlled. Other standard features include a touchscreen display, the ability to record video in slow motion, GPS, as well as record and take photos in HDR.
What sets the Hero7 Black apart from the Silver and White is that it is the only model that is capable of HyperSmooth video recording. Which enables users to record incredibly smooth video, without the need for a gimbal.
The Hero7 Black is also the only model that comes with the new TimeWarp video feature. GoPro describes the features as being able to capture “super smooth, stabilised time lapse video – even as you move through a scene”. Judging from what’s being shown, the feature really doesn’t seem to be anything more a standard video that has been sped up.
Lastly, the Hero7 Black can now livestream videos directly a social media platform of a user’s choice. However, it seems that the social media options are limited to just Facebook and Instagram at the moment.
As mentioned earlier, both the Hero7 Silver and Hero7 White are whittled down version of the Hero7 Black, but still retain many similar features. Where the Black is fitted with a 12MP sensor, both Silver and White only have a 10MP sensor. The Silver is also capable of recording video at 4K, but only at 30 fps. While the White caps out at Full HD at 60 fps.
There are other features both Silver and White lack. Unlike the Black, the other two models lack the HyperSmooth Video recording and Live Streaming capability. Because of its entry-level status, the White also does not have GPS, HDR or WDR functionality. Lastly, both the Hero7 Silver and White are only capable of recording slow motion videos at 2x.
The GoPro Hero7 Black, Hero7 Silver, and Hero7 White are officially retailing at US$699.99 (~RM2896), US$399.99 (~RM1654), and US$199.99 (~RM827). At the time of writing, no local pricing or availability has been announced.
