Streets Of Rage Will Be Getting A Full-Fledged Sequel

Back in the mid ’90s, when side-scrolling beat ’em ups were all the rage, one of the dominant names in the scene was, fittingly, Streets of Rage. That said, the last game in the series was back in 1994. Now, 24 years later, a true sequel to the series has been announced.

Streets of Rage 4 is being jointly developed by Lizardcube, Grand Crush Games and Dotemu. Aside from a name that pulls strongly on nostalgia strings, it seems that we can expect updated mechanics, a new story that picks up from where last game left off, as well as art and graphics befitting the 21st century.

For now, what is known is that the game will have the two-player co-op that it had since the inception of the series. There will also be two playable characters, both of which have been with the series since the start –  Axel Stone and Blaze Fielding. We sure hope that other characters like Adam and Eddie Hunter, as well as Max Thunder, will also make a return.

And that’s all that we know, unfortunately. We don’t know when the game will be released, nor the platforms on which they will be released on. But judging from the game’s art, and the fact that Lizardcube did Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap, there’s a high chance that it will show up on the Nintendo Switch.
