Sony RX 100 VI Boasts Long Zoom Lens And Faster Autofocus

Sony has announced its latest compact camera in the RX100 series. The new RX 100 VI combines the well-known compact form-factor with a long 28 – 200mm F2.8 – F4.5 lens. According to the announcement, the lens offers the benefits of both “24-70mm and 70-200mm focal lengths into a singular compact design.”

The RX 100 VI also boasts a 0.03-second autofocus lock; faster compared to the 0.05-second in the RX 100 V. This is thanks to the Fast Hybrid AF system with 315-point phase-detection AF points. The 20.1MP sensor is supported by an upgraded BIONZ X image processor.

It is also the first RX-series camera with a touch-screen, which can tilt down 90 degrees and flip-up 180 degrees. The pop-up EVF is still present, with virtually the same resolution as with the RX100 V. For video, it supports 4K HDR using the new HLG (Hybrid Log-Gamma) picture profile.

Unfortunately, there were some sacrifices that had to be made to accommodate the upgrades. For one, the lens is now a f/2.8-f/4.0. There is also no built-in ND filters for video. Plus there is a price increase for the new model. It is priced at US$ 1,200 (RM 4,766). No word if it is coming to Malaysia, but precedence states that we should be seeing it pretty soon locally.
