Qualcomm Snapdragon 850 Is Designed Specifically For Always Connected Windows PCs

Qualcomm has unveiled the new Snapdragon 850. Essentially a turbocharged Snapdragon 845, it is designed for the next generation of Always Connected Windows 10 PCs. Something that Microsoft has been trying to push over the last year.

The idea of the Windows 10 Always Connected PC is that users will rely on cloud services for their apps and storage. Which also allows seamless transitions between smartphones, tablets, and laptops. All presumably running on Windows 10.

The new platform shares the same X20 LTE modem as the Snapdragon 845, so it can offer Gigabit LTE connectivity on the go. As this is designed for a larger device, it is clocked higher at 2.95 GHz. Qualcomm is also promising day-long battery life, with supported devices offering 20+ hours of continuous usage on a single charge.

Of course, the Snapdragon 850 is expected to be substantially better than the Snapdragon 835 that is currently in use with Always Connected PCs. Seeing that it’s already based on the current generation Snapdragon 845. On that note, Qualcomm has no intention bringing the Snapdragon 850 to smartphones.

Qualcomm expects partners will be shipping new devices with the Snapdragon 850 sometime this holiday season; around November or December.
