Motorola Z3 Play Is Official; Supports All Released Motomods

Motorola has unveiled its latest smartphone to the world: The Motorola Z3 Play. As the name implies, it follows the same Moto Z and Moto Z2 form factor; making it fully compatible with all existing Moto Mods.

Interestingly, there is still a slightly larger display fitted to the Z3 Play; this one measuring in at 6-inches. As a result of this, the phone has smaller bezels than its predecessors. Although it doesn’t quite have the kind of bezel-less displays that most flagships sport these days.

Underneath the glass and metal construction, the Z3 Play is fitted with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 636. Two storage options are available (32GB and 64GB) and both are paired with 4GB of RAM. Imaging is handled by the dual-camera module at the back, a 12MP + 5MP combo. The second sensor handles depth information for Dual Pixel autofocus and bokeh effects. Selfies meanwhile use the front 8MP sensor.

New with the Z3 Play is the fingerprint scanner. However, this is a stand-alone scanner, as the power button is now on the left side of the phone. The battery is rated at 3,000mAh and it supports Motorola’s TurboPower 15W fast charging.

As it comes with the 16-POGO pin array at the back, it supports all MotoMod that has been launched previously. This includes the Gamepad, JBL SoundBoost, the Moto Insta-Share Projector, and the Power Pack among others.

US pricing is set at US$499 (RM 1,983) which comes bundled along with the Battery Mod. No announcements for Malaysian availability but we should be seeing it pretty soon locally.
