LG May Supply OLED Panels to Apple for the Next iPhones

It appears Apple is looking to source its OLED displays from more than one manufacturer. Sourcing anonymous sources, Bloomberg reported that LG could very well be supplying OLED panels to Apple for the next iPhones.

Currently, Samsung is the sole supplier of OLED panels for the iPhone X, which allows the Korean company to charge higher premiums on the displays. If LG does strike a deal with Apple, it will reduce the Cupertino company’s reliance on Samsung.

However, LG will supposedly only supply two to four million OLED displays to Apple for the time being, which isn’t all that much in relation to Apple’s sales figure. That being said, LG will ramp up the production of its OLED displays in the near future. Apparently, LG is aiming to supply all the screens for one particular iPhone model that’s set to be released later this year.

Apple is expected to introduce at least three new iPhone models later this year; two of which will be sporting OLED displays. If Apple will indeed source its OLED panels from both Samsung and LG, it’ll be interesting to see if there will be any difference in display quality. After all, Samsung’s OLED panels are generally considered superior to LG’s – at least, that’s the case in the mobile space.

Regardless, we’ll find out for ourselves as we approach the month of September. That’s when Apple usually introduce its latest iPhones.
