Computex 2018: ASUS Announces Project Precog; A Dual-Screen Convertible Fueled By AI

Just when we thought that all ASUS have to show at its second launch event are ZenBooks and VivoBooks, turns out the Taiwanese giant have another surprise under its sleeves. Although it is not yet a finished product, Project Precog is definitely another highlight of the event aside from the new ZenBook Pro with ScreenPad secondary display.

While the device might look like another thin and light Zenbook, it actually comes with 360-degree hinge in a way that is similar to the company’s ZenBook Flip. This allows it to be use in multiple positions including Stand, Book, Tent, and Flat.

Aside from that, what made the concept device really interesting is the fact that it comes with two touch displays. Yup, that’s correct: there is no physical keyboard and touchpad on Project Precog. Instead, the convertible device offers what ASUS refer to as AI Touch which automatically provide the input method according to users’ need.

For example, the device will show the keyboard and touchpad when users place their hands on the device as well as adjust their positions. If it detects the stylus tip on its lower screen, Project Precog interface will then change to stylus mode.

Other AI-fueled feature within Project Precog includes intelligent battery charging to help maximize its battery lifespan as well as being contextually aware of what users are working on Microsoft Office 365 in order to suggest suitable visualization for their Excel spreadsheets and others.

Project Precog will also feature Intel Movidius Vision Processor Unit which allows the device to have hardware-accelerated visual-based AI to help drive its real-time object and face detection capability. Not to forget, the device will also support Windows Cortana and Amazon Alexa.

Being a concept device, the exact specifications and pricing for Project Precog is not yet known at the moment. Nevertheless, ASUS has announced that it is aiming to have the device ready for consumers in 2019.
