Computex 2018: AMD Demonstrates 7nm Vega GPU For The First Time, Available Later This Year

Another major agenda at AMD’s Computex press briefing yesterday aside from the 2nd Gen Ryzen Threadripper CPU and PowerColor Radeon RX Vega 56 Nano graphics card is the first ever public demonstration of 7nm Vega GPU. This particular chip is being sampled right now by select customers and will be heading to the market within the second half of 2018.

Using Maxon Cinema4D which is one of several 3D application out there that features integration with Radeon ProRender engine, AMD choose to perform ray tracing in order to showcase the power of the GPU. You can see it in action below:

Apart from having a smaller footprint than its predecessor, the 7nm GPU not only has better performance but also more power efficient. However, AMD choose not to reveal the exact specifications of the GPU at its Computex press conference although the company did mention that the chip that it used for the demo comes with 32GB HBM2 memory.

While the 7nm GPU will be heading to Radeon Instinct accelerators at first, AMD’s CEO, Lisa Su has assured gamers out there than the company will be bringing the 7nm GPU to them as well. That beings said, she didn’t specify any release timeline for that to happen which generally means that it might be going to take a while before gamers able to take advantage of the potential power that the 7nm Vega GPU might able to deliver.
