Broadband Price In Malaysia To Be At Least 25-Percent Cheaper By Year-End

In a press conference earlier today, the Minister of Communications and Multimedia, Gobind Singh Deo has revealed that the price of broadband services in Malaysia is expected to go down by the end of 2018. Specifically, the price reduction is said to be at least 25%.

The minister stated that reduction is made possible due to the implementation of Mandatory Standard on Access Pricing (MSAP) by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) which apparently took place earlier this month. In general, MSAP determines the ceiling wholesale price for operators and telco companies in our market which subsequently affects that the price that end-users need to pay for their broadband service.

Gobind also stated that the directive originally supposed to come into operation on 1 January 2018 but it was delayed to allow additional fine-tuning by MCMC after an appeal made by TM. Additionally, the minister was informed that the implementation process is still going on and will be completed by July or August.
