Bethesda Sues Warner Bros For Westworld Game; Calls It A Blatant Rip-Off Of Fallout Shelter

Bethesda is suing Warner Bros and video game developer, Behaviour Interactive, over the Westworld mobile game. The video games publisher alleges in its lawsuit that the mobile game is a “blatant rip-off” of Fallout Shelter.

Bethesda’s lawsuit states that Westworld – which has been available for both iOS and Android device since last week – has the “same or highly similar game design, art style, animations, features, and other gameplay elements” of Fallout Shelter.

The lawsuit also indicates that Westworld shares similar gameplay features, such as the underground multi-room facilities, as well as the “cartoonish 2D characters in a 3D environment”.

Fallout Shelter was first released in June 2015 on iOS, while the Android version of the game was released two months later in August 2015. The game was then subsequently ported over on PC, Xbox One, PS4, and the Nintendo Switch.

Ironically, Behaviour Interactive was the studio responsible in helping Bethesda make Fallout Shelter. To that end, Bethesda is also accusing the video game developer of “breaching its contract with Bethesda and utilising its restricted access to its intellectual property,” which includes copyrighted codes and trade secrets among other things.
