Instagram now lets users share posts directly to stories

Instagram app on Android

Instagram has rolled out a new feature that allows users to easily share posts they see in the feed directly to stories.

To do so, tap the paper airplane button below the post, just as you would when sending a post in a direct message.

Now, there will also be an option here to create a story that will display the feed post as a sticker with a customized background. The sticker can be rotated, scaled or moved around, while the background itself can be set to different styles. Once finished, you can share it as you would with any other story.

Instagram reshare posts

Only posts from public Instagram accounts can be shared, with each shared post also having a link to the original poster’s Instagram handle.

Those that don’t want their stories shared can opt out by going to ‘Settings,’ then ‘Account,’ and select ‘Allow Resharing to Stories.’

The new feature is part of the latest update to the Instagram app on Android and iOS.

Instagram says the feature is only available on Android at the moment, with an iOS rollout set for “the coming days.” However, it’s worth noting that since updating the Instagram app, I’ve been able to access the feature on my iPhone 7 Plus, so your mileage may vary.

In other Instagram news, company CEO Kevin Systrom confirmed earlier this week that a ‘Usage Insights’ feature is on the way to let users see how much time they spend in the app.
