Google Reportedly Developing New AR Headset; Powered By Qualcomm

Rumour has it that Google is currently working on a new version of an Augmented Reality (AR) headset that could effectively rival Microsoft’s HoloLens. At this current time, information obtained by German site WinFuture suggests that development of the glasses are still in its early stages.

Going by the codename “Google A65”, further information suggests that the headset will is being built by a Taiwanese computer maker named Quanta. Like Microsoft’s current HoloLens, Google’s headset will reportedly be self-contained and powered by a quad-core Qualcomm processor. Interestingly enough, Microsoft’s next iteration of its HoloLens will be powered by the same Qualcomm processor.

Additional details of the headset say it will be untethered, and that it will have more than one microphone and camera. It will also support 802.11ac WiFi and Bluetooth 5.1.

This isn’t Google’s first endeavour in creating an AR headset. Back in 2012, the search engine giant introduced the first Google Glass headset during its annual Google I/O conference. Unfortunately, the headset never gained the traction Google wanted in the consumer space, but did find a second life as an industrial tool last year.
