Adobe XD Interface Design Platform Introduces Free Version

Adobe has expanded its Creative Cloud suite with the new Adobe XD user interface design platform Starter Plan. In a first, it is offering a free version of the software for users; allowing everyone to use a limited version for an unlimited amount of time.

The Adobe XD Starter Plan only offers 2GB of cloud storage and access to a limited set of fonts from Typekit. It will also only allow a single active project to be shared among other users at any given time.

As far as free versions go, this could be extremely limiting for all but the most casual of users. Seeing that it appears to be targeted a solitary developers who are likely working on personal projects in their free time.

On the other hand, the full version of Adobe XD costs a minimum of $10 per month, but provides unlimited shared projects and 100GB of cloud storage.

It’s clear that the Starter Plan is meant to attract users to at least give Adobe XD a try; and perhaps pull some market share from rival Sketch. It’s perhaps not the best plan, but Adobe apparently has some big plans for the XD platform.

There’s a new $100 million fund being set up for developers to use Adobe XD and build projects on the platform. This fund will be distributed in the form of grants and equity investments, and is meant to encourage the use of Adobe’s products among professional.
