Phidisk: A Malaysian Solid State Drive and Memory Card Company Is Gearing Up For Its Debut

When it comes to solid state drive (SSD) and flash storages, the choices for consumers in Malaysia are rather diverse since there are plenty of players within our market. In general, this made it rather competitive but nevertheless, that is not going to stop a new Malaysian company from entering the segment.

Phidisk, which is based in Penang have been working to establish the foundation to release their products into the market since last year. The company’s product roll out will begin from this month onwards starting with its PhantnmKinght SATA SSD series which is designed for the mainstream segment.

Covered by 3-year warranty, the 2.5-inch PhantnmKnight SSDs apparently have a maximum sequential read and write speed of up to 530MB/s and 430MB/s respectively. They are available in four different capacities: 120GB, 240GB, 480GB, and 960GB.

Price-wise, we were told that the 120GB model will go for RM 130 while the 240GB can be obtained for RM 209. The company has yet to finalized the pricing for the 480GB and 900GB variants but we were informed they will go for around RM 300+ and RM 800+ respectively.

Other than that, Phidisk will also be releasing M.2-based SATA SSDs into the market as well. To be launched under the WrathKeeper moniker, these SSDs apparently feature read speed of up to 580MB/s and are covered by a 5-year warranty. However, their storage options have not been finalized by the Penang company.

Meanwhile, there is also another SSD series in the pipeline from Phidisk in the form of TheKeeper which is designed for high-performance users. Hence, that is why it utilizes NVMe interface and offers a read speed of almost 2000MB/s. Just like WrathKeeper, the company is still finalizing the storage options for TheKeeper at the moment although the series will come standard with a 5-year warranty as well.

As mentioned earlier, Phidisk also produces flash cards as well. For SD and microSD cards, they are available under the Phoenix series for cards with capacities of 64GB and above. On another hand, lower capacities card such as 16GB and 32GB are positioned under the Dragonout series.

There is also the Armed edition for users that want to have an adapter to be included with their Phidisk Pheonix or Dragonout microSD cards. Not for forget, Phidisk also has several OTG products in the works including the i PHI series which is designed for Apple products as well as the Crystal Lite series for devices with USB Type-C port.

According to Phidisk’s Founder, Kendrick Hung (shown below), all of the company’s products are designed in Malaysia although they are still being manufactured in Taiwan for the time being. He also stated that all of Phidisk’s products are using controllers made by Phison which is a well-known name in the industry.

Even though Phidisk has yet to lock down the specific rollout period for its SSDs and flash storages aside from the PhantnmKnight SSD series, they are still expected to be available in Malaysia within 2018 itself according to Kendrick. Consumers can also expect to see Phidisk’s official website to go online soon which would allow the company to reach out to consumers in a more convenient manner.

It might still early days for Phidisk but Kendrick has also revealed that the company is already looking to expand its market reach to Australia and Vietnam. All in all, we should be able to hear more about the ambitious flash storage outfit from Penang once again very soon.
